Last night, I got so overwhelmed with the anxiety of school. I started thinking of the work I have to do before class on Tuesday, and once I started stressing about that, I started stressing about my finals next month. Before I knew it, I was such a mess with worry that I couldn’t even concentrate on doing my schoolwork. I feel like, as college students, we’ve all been there at some point. But as Christians, there is a simple solution. In the middle of my freak out, I realized that I didn’t need to carry all of this stress by myself – I would give it to God. Even though it’s simple, it seems like we’re always forgetting there’s another option. So let these verses serve as a reminder to depend on God.

Peter 5:7

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

In college, there can be so much struggle. We are deciding what to do for the rest of our lives and at the same time keeping up with coursework and tests. While all that excessive amount of responsibilities is piling on our shoulders, it is easy to let God drift from focus. We let the stress consume so much of our minds that we forget that God can carry that weight for us.

Luke 12:31-32

“Instead, seek his kingdom, and these other things will be given you besides. Do not be afraid any longer, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom.”

This verse is basically saying that when you depend on God everything else will fall into place. Through all the ups and downs seek God’s kingdom first. In order to do this, we have to learn to rely on God. Like this verse says, God wants to get us to Heaven, and that’s the ultimate goal. We can’t depend on ourselves to get there because of God knows what that path will look like.

Matthew 6:28-30

“Learn from the way the wildflowers grow… If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown in the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you…”

This verse really highlights the simplicity of depending on God. It kind of goes against human nature to give up control. But like this verse shows, it’s not as hard as it seems. God will take care of us. He takes care of everything on Earth, even wildflowers, so why wouldn’t He provide us with what we most need?

John 15:27

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.”

Let your peace be sourced from God. This is something that I personally struggle with. I tend to look to my earthly relationships for comfort, but humans are flawed… obviously. They disappoint and reject and make mistakes, but God doesn’t. I don’t understand why it can be so difficult to depend on God for peace when He is so clearly the man for job. But we just have to remind ourselves to rely on Him because like this verse says, when we accept God’s peace, our hearts won’t be troubled or afraid anymore… and who wouldn’t want that??
