Bible Verses For Dealing With Uncertainty

College can be filled with a lot of uncertainty. As college students, we are faced with huge decisions that could potentially affect our futures. I know that the uncertainty of those outcomes has been a major source of anxiety for me since starting college. Thankfully, scripture has helped me countless times to deal with such struggles, especially, when I need comfort. So, if the source of your struggles is like mine, hopefully these verses will bring you a sense of comfort as well.

Psalm 46: 1

“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.”

I wanted to start off with this verse because I think it lays a strong foundation for dealing with any hardship. In all times, but especially in college, it is so important to rely on God. I say “especially in college” because of all the hard times that this period consists of. It seems that this time is one of questioning for a lot people.

I’ve met so many people since starting college that have began to raise huge questions – ones about their majors, life goals, faith, relationships. There have many been many times where I’ve even questioned myself. But, by relying on God, you can be ready and less fearful when these big questions come to the surface. Also, I find it helps to give those questions to God so when the time comes you can be sure of any answer because they have been given in faith.

Philippians 4:6-7

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

This verse has been presented to me several times over the past two weeks, and I think there is a reason God has made me so aware of this verse lately. It has such an important message that fellow college students could appreciate, so I really felt like it should be shared.

I made a pact with myself a few months ago while I was struggling emotionally to place God in any and every situation that gave me anxiety no matter how small. Then, I told myself to let those anxieties go because they were not in my hands anymore. This gave me such a sense of peace. While I begin to practice this again, I challenge you to join me in any time of uncertainty (or any struggle for that matter) so that your hearts and minds will be guarded by the peace of God.

Romans 15:13

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

Through times of uncertainty it’s crucial to stay positive. I have been guilty many times of letting my burdens pile on top of me and being consumed in them. But, as this verse says we have a God of hope. We have a choice to let our hearts be filled with sadness and anxiety or joy and peace. So, when you give your uncertainties to God be hopeful in the answers that you will receive. God knows what is best for you, and, because you have given your future to Him, He will provide.
